Manufacturing Close To Home
When TriPyramid opened in 1989, we used a Connecticut machine shop, busy making America’s Cup yacht hardware, to manufacture the tension rod system which supports the Louvre Pyramid.
Today, we still use the machines and machine shops across the country that make the best hardware components, regardless of industry specialization. Brainstorming with experts outside the building and construction trade helped us realize that maintaining aerospace tolerances on geometry and museum-worthy surface finishes could provide the fit and finish which distinguish the TriPyramid brand.
TriPyramid manufactures almost all of our products in the US with American-made materials.
This makes fulfillment of the 1933 Buy American Act (41 U.S.C. §8302), the 1983 Buy America Act (49 U.S.C. §5323), the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s Buy American provision (section 1605 of Title XVI), and the 2021 Build America Buy America Act just a formality in most cases. The Recovery Act Buy American provision supersedes the prior regulations for any stimulus-funded projects related to the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of public buildings or public work. All iron, steel, or manufactured goods used in the work must be produced and manufactured in the United States (unless strict exception guidelines are met). The current economic emphasis on improvements to infrastructure in the US has been a boon for the building trades, and TriPyramid is positioned to easily supply contractors with 100% US goods.
The all-American hardware we supply spans the gamut.
For Sky Reflector-Net (2013), we sourced everything from 15,000 feet of ¼ inch diameter stainless steel cable to hundreds of 10-32 x 1/8-inch long stainless steel set screws all melted and made in the US. For the 34th Street Canopy project (the first section of which should be open to the public in 2014), we manufactured over 210 unique ø3-1/2 inch cable clamp fittings, each of which was engraved with a location stamp and pre-assembled to assist with coordination on site.

Our fabrication facilities stretch from Massachusetts to California, often reducing the distance components travel to site. The 300-series stainless steel used in the majority of TriPyramid’s hardware is a minimum of 75% post-consumer recycled content.
We enjoy working with state-side machine shops because it means we can deliver finished parts faster than the competition. Via daily progress reports, it’s as if everything is being produced right in our back yard.
Over the summer of 2008, TriPyramid built the stainless-steel pipe trusses which support nearly half an acre of glass roofing and façade for the Dubai Mall, in only eight weeks from initial drawings to final shipment.
To complete the job, we purchased all the 1 ½ inch diameter, schedule 40, 316 stainless-steel pipe available in the US at the time. Custom skids which alone weighed up to 2,500 lbs were required just to ship the trusses to Dubai. This feat was possible only because our products are produced here, so close to home.
