Chicago Penthouse Residential Stair

The stair connects two floors in a Chicago penthouse apartment. It is one of the most elegant stairs TriPyramid has worked on in 20 years of operation.

As with many projects, TriPyramid designed and engineered full details for several iterations of this stair before the artist, engineer and owner selected the version seen here. In the final design, the central support “truss”, when tensioned by the unique turnbuckle at the floor, becomes extremely rigid, both vertically and laterally. Each element of the stair was carefully designed to be both functional and aesthetically perfect. TriPyramid was responsible for all design details and supplied all the stainless and aluminum parts, including the central spine. The wooden handrail was by others.
