Double Skin Climate Wall, NY Presbyterian Hospital

The double skinned “climate wall” is designed to be energy-efficient while providing natural light to large areas of the building. Because of its prominence and proximity to passersby, the details of the wall’s structure had to meet the architect’s very high aesthetic standards.

From the earliest design stages, TriPyramid worked with the architect and structural engineers to detail the stainless steel rod tension trusses located between the inner and outer glass walls. After which, TriPyramid worked with the glazing contractor to design, engineer, and supply the truss system and all of its components. Hardware highlights included a custom, dead load carrying casting to connect the hardware at the glass to the truss hardware, and specialized rod termination hardware which was used to preload the rod trusses.
