One Manhattan West podium wall
One Manhattan West is the first building to open as part of Brookfield Properties’ Manhattan West complex, an eight-acre district in development on Manhattan’s West Side. The 995-foot tower is constructed above active passenger rail lines, with only 30 percent of its footprint dedicated to the ground floor. The building features a 45-foot-tall ultra-transparent lobby space, with glass façade panels structurally braced by glass fins.
TriPyramid collaborated closely with Eckersley O’Callaghan, W&W Glass, and the design team in the development of the custom glazing adapter system which secures the lobby façade glass. Each fin was shop-glazed in Germany with two 22-foot-long, laser-welded stainless steel channel units. The channel geometry was designed to provide sufficient surface area for structural silicone in the joint between the façade glass and fins while minimizing visible stainless steel hardware.
TriPyramid also manufactured the head bracket assemblies and dead load shelves, integral to the sill zone. The round corners and 10-degree tilt to the lobby glass meant that the dead load shelves were geometrically different at each fin location.
