One Vanderbilt podium wall
The podium wall of One Vanderbilt features a unique design that carefully slices through the buildings mass with angular cuts, creating a 70-foot-tall immersive space at the ground level. The design by KPF opens up the corner of East 42nd St. and Vanderbilt Ave. to the public by orchestrating a visual pathway towards the Grand Central Terminal. Simultaneously, it establishes a pedestrian plaza that integrates the architecture into the urban fabric of Midtown Manhattan.
TriPyramid Structures collaborated with KPF and W&W Glass in the design development of the façade system. This system includes 22 uniquely configured welded trusses, over 400 stainless steel tension rods, and 136 glass fin units. In the lateral direction, these elements are reinforced with adjustable outriggers connecting to existing structural columns.
