Tokyo City Hall Kinetic Sculpture
Michio Ihara’s stainless and brass sculpture occupies a central space in the Maki-designed City Hall.
TriPyramid worked with the artist and structural engineer to design a structural system with high-strength stainless tension rods. The rods and fittings were integrated such that they become part of the sculpture, not just an adjunct support system. Additionally, TriPyramid developed and supplied the hydraulic system used to install and pretension the stainless rods.
